Japan’s August wholesale inflation slows on yen rebound

TOKYO : Japan’s wholesale inflation hit 2.5 per cent in August, slowing from the previous month as the yen’s rebound eased pressure on import costs, data showed on Thursday.
The rise in the corporate goods price index (CGPI), which measures the price companies charge each other for their goods and services, was slower than a 2.8 per cent annual increase and followed a 3.0 per cent gain in July.
The slowdown in wholesale inflation, which will affect the broader consumer price data in coming months, may take some pressure off the Bank of Japan to address upward price pressure with near-term interest rate hikes.
